Dean Farley, PhD, is a nationally recognized health economist specialized in hospital finance, case-mix measurement, and severity adjustment. He joined OptumInsight in 2005 through the acquisition of HSS, Inc. and now serves as senior vice president. Dean has served on several health care policy committees and boards including the Intramural Research Program at the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) and the Quantitative Analysis Working Group on the President's Task Force on Health Care Reform. He worked as an economist and special assistant for health policy analysis at the Office of Management and Budget.
Dean has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and speaks at various health care conferences. He is frequently quoted in national, local and trade media on hospital coding and reimbursement topics. He has received numerous honors for his work including AHCPR's Award for Excellence and Award of Merit. He holds a Bachelor's in Economics, Phi Beta Kappa, from Brandeis University, as well as a Master's in Public Affairs and a PhD in Economics from Princeton University.
